Ms. Hansen’s realistic paintings illustrate a narrative drawn from Western culture. Her intention is to show an alternate version of stories commonly told in Western classical art.
Our common stories and myths depict the subject as having no choice. She inverts the typical trope and offers an altered version. Ms. Hansen incorporates traditional Catholic religious ritual, contemporary and personal symbolism in her work. Deborah’s sculpture explore issues of common humanity and questions of identity and draws on Greek and Roman mythology for symbolism.
Deborah Hansen received her BA in Economics from Wellesley College, Wellesley, Massachusetts and a MBA from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. She has a BFA from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. She has participated in group shows in Alaska and her work is in private collections in the United States.
