Conversations:

The Art of Conversation Lies in Listening.

My show visualizes what I’ve been listening to over the past year. I trust that you are interested in conversing about art, effort, sacrifice, power and dreams too.

My references cover a wide range of time and I organized them in what I think is a good chronological order.

This show begins with Runestones written mainly in Elder Furthark with a little English with twentieth and twenty-first century quotes. I was thinking what if we erected stone that would stand for a thousand years, what is worth saying in a laborious process of carving.  The concepts have been around as long as people: Dreaming, Sorrow, Power and Justice or Life and Death.

I end with stories which relate to today based on characters  from a couple of thousand years ago. David, Jesus’ direct ancestor, killed Goliath, betrayed women and men; a poet, priest warrior and king, a complex person. Mary, Jesus’ mother, was a guardian and people pray to her to protect them. The Man of Sorrows perhaps still suffers for the continued killing. Someday perhaps we will listen and stop.

The ceramic sculpture, Justice, on the right will be featured in ‘Conversations’.

Conversations opens September 5, 2025 in the Center Gallery of the International Gallery of Contemporary Art in Anchorage, AK. Join us for the opening from 5pm-8pm.

The show will be viewable Sept 6-Sept 26 Thursday - Sunday from 1pm - 4pm
